Strengthening Coffee Nursery Development
Field Visit to Soroti and Gulu

Strengthening Coffee Farming Communities in Soroti and Gulu

As part of our ongoing commitment to building sustainable coffee farming communities, our team recently conducted a field visit to Soroti and Gulu. The trip focused on monitoring progress, strengthening community engagement, and supporting farmers with much-needed planting materials.

Purpose of the Visit

The primary objective of this journey was to follow up on the progress of coffee nursery beds and mother gardens established in the region. These nurseries play a critical role in ensuring farmers have access to healthy, high-quality seedlings. In addition, we carried out mobilisation activities with Coffee Community Volunteers, who are key in supporting farmers with training, guidance, and follow-up at the grassroots level.

A major highlight of the visit was the delivery of 10,000 coffee seedlings to farmers in Soroti, a significant step toward increasing coffee production and improving household incomes.

A Special Encounter

While in Gulu, we were honored to meet Mzee Bosco Otto, a pioneer coffee farmer with over 25 years of experience in coffee cultivation. His long-standing dedication to coffee farming and wealth of knowledge served as an inspiration and a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting experienced farmers while nurturing the next generation.

This visit reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening coffee value chains in northern and eastern Uganda. Through continued collaboration, seedling support, and community mobilisation, we remain focused on empowering farmers to achieve sustainable livelihoods through coffee.
